money sucks

We've overextended ourselves again. Due to overspending last week, we got hit with overdraft charges. Since I didn't figure those in, we're about to get hit with more. I hate being broke.

On a lighter side, I actually got something cool for being in debt. I transfered a large account balance to a new credit card, and they gave me an "upfront" reward. I'd be happy enough going from 30% interest to 10%, but they gave me a laptop, too!

Sell the laptop - pay some bills.

I agree that would be a fix that would net us a few hundred dollars, I don't think we will. We have not expended anything to get the laptop, in fact have gotten a lower interest rate on the debt we have. The laptop will provide us with much entertainment value, and everyone, including the broke, need entertainment. What's better than free entertainment?

A fix I'm looking into is a second job. That would be more than a one-time fix, would allow us to pay some bills, and maybe provide enough to save for a real vacation next year.

You weren't without entertainment before.

You (obviously) had on-line capabilities - and if you like the ISP the laptop uses - switch to the same on the P.C. -

You argue that selling the laptop is a temporary fix. I At least it is a fix that can put some money in your checking account. Especially with all the overdraft fees (it sounded like you DIDN'T have the cash to cover RIGHT NOW). So that would make it an immediate fix (if only temporary). If you already have a P.C. at home - and have bills to pay - NOT selling the laptop is irresponsible.

Unless, of course the money problems aren't as bad as they seem.

We borrowed from Peter to pay Paul. Now we need to pay Peter. I think our biggest problem has been with the one word out of my original post... overspending. That is where I admit we have been irresponsible.

Money problems are bad, but I am actually taking action to improve the situation. I simply CHOOSE not to sell the laptop. If you really want to know more of the reasons, feel free to email me privately.

I feel pretty good about the work I've done on the tree. Still more to do, though.

Roof still needs another quote. I was thinking of asking the insurance company to insure our house sans garage until we get it fixed, but not sure if they will insure only part of the property.
